With this summers temperatures regularly exceeding 100 degrees many of us tend to forget about our backyards, myself included. That is, until the recent installation of our solid, insulated,aluminium patio cover.
Our backyard patio is on the South side of a white, two story home. In other words, it is in full sun all day long. The white stucco would reflect that all day sun onto the patio, adding to the heat and ultimately making our patio a no-go zone during Lancasters hot summer days. That same sun would also beat through the windows forcing the air conditioning to run almost non stop to keep the inside temperature comfortable. As I sit on our now covered patio to write this blog our "alumawood” style, aluminum patio cover makes this outdoor living space one of our favorite “rooms” of the house. We opted for an EliteWood insulated patio cover (JNR Home Improvements is an authorized dealer) which features a very nice, deep driftwood, wood grain texture. Our covered patio also has three ceiling fans built into it, installed seamlessly as the awning was built with the electrical lines hidden safely inside of the roof panels. With the fans on now, a thermometer reads a full 25 degrees cooler in the patio shade than in the sun just outside of the shaded patio; yes 25 degrees cooler! That difference is what makes our patio such a nice place to relax instead of somewhere to avoid. An added bonus is the shade provided over our family room windows cooling that room as well. Our covered patio was engineered and built for the excessive wind seen on the westside of the Lancaster/Quartz Hill area. While most aluminum patios are attached directly to an existing concrete patio slab, we had a beautiful new stamped and colored concrete patio poured. We also chose upgraded columns over the standard posts to better match our homes architecture.
